Pirkanmaan Voimia Utilizes the Vuolearning Platform for Staff Training - Easy-to-Use platform Was Smooth to Implement

Pirkanmaan Voimia launched the Vuolearning online learning platform last fall, and in a short time, they have successfully rolled out the platform within their organization and created courses and learning paths on it.

Pirkanmaan Voimia is a provider of cleaning and food services working in Pirkanmaa, with customers ranging from infants to the elderly: their services are used by daycare centers, schools, hospitals, senior services, and even leisure facilities like swimming halls. They operate in hundreds of locations all around Pirkanmaa.

They employ around 1,000 people. Voimia uses the Vuolearning platform to onboard and train its large workforce.

In this interview, Katriina Bergmann, who works as the HR Manager at Voimia, shared insights about using the learning environment. Bergmann’s responsibilities include for example developing supervisory work, competence development, and employee well-being. Bergmann was involved in the Vuolearning acquisition project as a project manager and also serves as a superadmin user of the platform.

In search of a user-friendly and clear platform

Over the years, Voimia has adopted many new systems, and acquiring a learning platform was next on the list. They hadn’t used one before.

The most important criterion for the new platform was ease of use. Since many employees at Voimia don’t spend their days in front of a computer, the organization's systems must be easy to use and intuitive.

They reviewed several platforms and options before choosing Vuolearning. They were impressed by the platform’s clarity: it’s easy to find content on the platform, and the platform guides the user’s actions. As a result, the platform was easy to implement with relatively minimal training.

Starting with onboarding

Voimia had clear priorities for what to do first on the platform and what kind of content they wanted to teach.

Although Voimia had not previously used a learning platform, they already had plenty of existing training materials, so they didn’t have to start from scratch. Of course, they still had to think about how to adapt the materials to the platform in a way that best supports learning.

At the time of the platform launch, they published three training and onboarding programs. One of them was a basic onboarding program for all new employees, which was produced in both Finnish and English. Another was a safety training, developed in part with the help of an external partner. Additionally, a learning path for supervisors was created on the platform.

Initially, content production was done by HR, but soon experts from areas such as ICT and Service Development joined in. Content continues to be created at a steady pace.

Easy adoption with light training

According to Bergmann, the implementation process for the platform was smooth and easy. The trainings provided by Vuolearning for superadmins and admins were effective, and the platform was easy to integrate with the HR-master system.

In addition to Vuolearning’s trainings for superadmins and content creators, Voimia conducted its own Teams-based training sessions for supervisors and employees. Vuolearning received praise for not requiring employees to be pulled away from work for extended training: short, approximately 30-minute onboarding sessions were sufficient. Voimia also recorded their training sessions, so all employees could complete them at their convenience.

Positive reception - user numbers exceeded expectations

The Vuolearning platform was well received within the organization. Feedback from employees has been positive.

Voimia requires all employees to complete certain courses, such as safety training. The platform consistently sees strong user numbers, and they even had to increase the number of licenses after the number of active users exceeded expectations.

The learning paths and the ability to build structured learning programs have been especially valuable for Voimia. This makes it easy for employees to find necessary trainings and track their progress within a learning path.

As for improvements, one request from content creators has been for better layout options for course content. Other than that, no major development needs have been identified.

Bergmann could recommend the platform to other companies. The platform suits their needs well, and they have been satisfied with it. Bergmann highlights Vuolearning’s clarity, lightweight implementation process, and smooth integration with the HR system as key advantages for the platform.
